2016 Length Check #1 | 3 Month No Heat Challenge Results

Now, that I am actually CARING for my hair. I am able to detect what my hair likes and what it doesn't like. My hair does not respond the best to EXCESSIVE heat. I made a commitment to start and complete a three month NO HEAT CHALLENGE at the beginning of the year.  My hair has responded so well to this challenge. My hair is thicker and much more healthy. My hair is longer and it continues to grow longer. I have not used heat on my hair since December 2015, and my hair is thriving from that decision. I believe I will hit my hair goals of reaching bra strap length by the end of the year. I actually believe I will hit mid-back length by the end of the year. This is incredible. I plan to not use any more heat for the remainder of the year.

Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector (Review)

After years of using mediocre primers. I think I finally found the one for me. Introducing the Becca-Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector. It retails for $36.00 on the Sephora website and it is worth every penny. This primer is absolutely amazing. You only need to apply to the product to specific areas of concern (which is usually the t-zone). Then you may apply another primer if you want around the perimeter of your face and cheeks...and so forth!

This primer kept me insanely mattified. I honestly couldn't even believe I was living in reality. It is the perfect primer  for anyone who suffers from oily skin. Not only does it mattify oily skin, but it helps to minimize large pores and gives your makeup a really smooth appearance.

I will say that you have to work quickly with this primer, because the foundation adheres to the product. The primer is also very drying on the skin due to it's mattifying make sure you are moisturized extremely well. Because, giiiiiiiirl if you do not moisturize ---that face is going to be as stiff as a Botox shot. Not that I know anything about that personally.

Top Natural Hair Products

I have been using the same natural hair care products over and over as of late. Would you like to ask me why? Well, I am so glad you asked. Okay....I will tell you why. ITS BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY WORK. When I find something that works for me, I continue to use it over and over again until the wheels FALL OFF. Especially, when it comes to moisturizing my dry hair and skin. These products are pretty much my staple products for my little personal hair care system. If you want to find out more about the products that I am talking about then please watch the video down below. You couldn't have possibly thought that I would do double the work by typing them in this post when I already documented it in a video...WAIT...did you????

Anastasia Beverly Hills Peach Nectar Illuminator Swatches (Deep Skin)

I have been curious about the Anastasia Beverly Hills Peach Nectar Illuminator for quite some time now. So I decided to give into my curiosity and purchase the product online from Macy's. It retails for $28.00.

I absolutely love the packaging. It is extremely sleek. The backside of the illuminator shows the exact color of what the product looks like.

The product has beautiful blocks of architecture. I didn't even want to swatch it. I just wanted to stare at it. But a girl has got to do what a girl gotta do! SO I SWATCHED THAT CHICK.

The illuminator swatches as a beautiful peachy-pink champagne color.

I did find that I had to pack quite a bit on to get more of an intensified look. That also could be due to my deep skin tone.

I think it looks amazing on a skin tone rich in melanin.

You can purchase the product here. Check out my video to see more of my thoughts about this illuminator.

The Best Everyday Eyeshadows for Deep Skin Tones

Well, I could just jump for pure JOY and go SCREAMING from all the mountain tops to say just how elated I am to have finally found the perfect everyday eyeshadows for women of color (especially deep skin tones). I have been searching for almost a year. I have tested out so many eyeshadows on a trial and error experiment. Most of them were ERRORS!!!! All I ever wanted was a neutral eyeshadow with a gorgeous sheen that COMPLIMENTED my RICH MELANIN.....ANNNNNNNNND that I could where on my eyelids to just about anywhere. Anywhere includes: work, school, church, a bbq, day party, special events, date night, girls night out, etc. LISTEN, GIRL...EVERYWHERE!!!!!  SO LET'S JUST GET INTO IT.

Front Row - (Right to Left): Brozned Taupe, Bad to the Bronze, Moondust, Woodwinked, Tempting
Back Row - Half Baked

I discovered L'Oreal Infalliable eyeshadows about two years ago, but I most recently fell in love with Bronzed Taupe after purchasing it. Bronzed Taupe had been sitting in my collection for quite some time without even being swatched. One day I just decided to use it and it occurred to me that I had discovered a masterpiece.

Bronzed Taupe is a pressed pigment with a creamy satin finish. This eyeshadow is best applied with your fingertips. It glides so smoothly from the fingertip onto the lid.The color is a neutral bronzey taupe eyeshadow with a glorious sheen. It is extremely pigmented. This eyeshadow retails at Walmart for $5.96. It is my absolute favorite.

Once you have used the eyeshadow you can use the second lid to press down the pigment and reshape it to its mini compact form.

Next up on the list is Maybelline Eyestudio Color Tatoo, 24 Hour Eyeshadow in the color Bad to the Bronze. I realized that Bad to the Bronze was not only the perfect base for an eyeshadow but in fact one of the best eyeshadows for everyday makeup purposes.

This color looks very similar to Bronzed Taupe. I believe it can be considered a dupe. The eyeshadow retails for $5.60 at WalmartBad to the Bronze also has a neutral bronzey taupe color with a light golden brown undertone. The eyeshadow blends in perfectly with my eyelids flesh toned color. It has bit of a thick paste like consistency. It doesn't glide onto the lid smoothly at all. It is best applied with fingertips or a concealer brush. You have to pack it on to the lid. You also have to build the pigmentation. My intentions are to use this eyeshadow for everyday use, so I really could care less about having to build the product. The LESS application of the product the BETTER!

The next eyeshadow is Makeup Geek's Moondust. Moondust retails for $6.00 on the Makeup Geek website. Moondust can also be considered a dupe for Bronzed Taupe, as it looks very similar to the color. Moondust also has a bronzed taupe color to it with a slight pewter undertone. It has pretty good pigmentation with a medium powder consistency to it. The color is best applied with a flat dense eyeshadow brush.

Do you see the color resemblance? I think they look pretty similar especially Bad to the Bronze and Bronzed Dupe. They are darn near identical when swatched side by side. They totally belong to the same family. Sisters from another Mister.

When I want to be a little bit more fancy then I will reach for my MAC eyeshadow in Woodwinked. This product retails for $16.00 on the Nordstrom website. I purchased Woodwinked last fall and it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. This color met all of my expectations. This product has a dusty gold color to it with such a beautiful sheen. This color stands out a bit more than the previous eyeshadows mentioned.....WELL, HELLO, IT IS MAC AFTER-ALL. Nevertheless, this eyeshadow can still be worn for any occassion.  It really just depends on the application. I ABSOLUTELY, ABSOLUTELY, ABSOLUTELY, this color!!!!

Tempting is another eyeshadow by MAC that makes me feel like I am doing it BIG when I put it on!!!! Tempting also retails for $16.00 online on the Nordstrom website. This color is a shimmery, rich, dusky-bronzed-gold . It is very pigmented and should be applied lightly if you want to  wear it during the day. If you want to wear it at night then do what you want, GIRL...MAKE IT DO WHAT IT DO...(Pack it on until there ain't nothing left if you get down like that).

Tempting looks very similar to Woodwinked when swatched side by side. What do you think?

The last color that I discovered in my collection that is absolutely perfect for deep skin tones is the eyeshadow by Urban Decay,  Half Baked. This single eyeshadow retails for $19.00 on the Macy's website. Or you can purchase the Naked Palette which includes the Half Baked eyeshadow on the Sephora website for $54.00. I own the palette. The color is a shimmery golden-honey shade. Half Baked is definitely one of the most velvety and highly pigmented eyeshadows that I own. Urban Decay eyeshadows are just amazing in general. But, UD really out-did themselves with this color. This color can be very intense on the eye.  It definitely needs to be blended with special consideration if you are going to wear it during the day (depending on your makeup preference).  BLEND IT LIKE YOUR LIFE IS AT STAKE! This eyeshadow is so gorgeous when it is blended out or even when it is packed on the lid. I love it. It does have quite a bit of fall-out...(YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED). BUT....a little fall-out never hurt nobody.

Glowy Spring Makeup

I don't know about you, but I am so SICK and TIRED of being SICK and TIRED of winter. I pulled out some of my more spring friendly cosmetics from my makeup collection and decided to do this really pretty simple glowy spring inspired look. This look was inspired by the L'Oreal Infalliable Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe. I absolutely love that color. It looks absolutely beautiful on all skin tones. I especially love it for dark skin tones. It is one of the most gorgeous complimentary eyeshadows that I have EVER seen on my deep skin.

Please stick around for the tutorial for this look down below. All the products mentioned and used are linked on my YouTube page!

Femme Couture Mineral Effects Baked Bronzer Review

I have been wanting to review the Femme Couture Mineral Effects Baked Bronzers for quite some time now. Primarily because I am really disappointed in the lack of love that gets shown to the Femme Couture brand at Sally's Beauty Supply. Makeup lovers really do appear to be sleeping on these bronzers (THE INTERNET TELLS IT ALL)! I really have not seen many swatches or reviews of these bronzers. I find it to be sad, because these bronzers are really great affordable treasures.

I am a highlighter and bronzer junkie. Anytime I see a bronzer or highlighter that looks like it can be working with a little something, I will most definitely scoop it up with no hesitation. And that is exactly what happened when I went to Sally's and discovered the Femme Couture Mineral Effects Baked Bronzers. These bronzers retail for $10.99 each. You may be able to get a dollar off or two if you have a Sally's Beauty Club card.

Twice Baked - (left)  & Summer Kiss - (right)

I started off with the purchase of Summer Kiss - Femme Couture Mineral Effects Baked Bronzer back in April of 2015. I absolutely loved it. The product is packaged quite well. It looks as if the product is of great quality without testing it. Packaging is very important because it is the first thing we see before we make a decision on the purchase.

It has a very pale-pinkish/pearlescent color to it. It looks as if it will swatch rose gold because of the gold flecks in it, but it does not AT ALL. It is very pale in color. When you first touch the product it feels it bit hard in its compact baked form. But once you swatch it to the skin, the product softens up on the skin. The texture is very soft and applies very smoothly to the skin.

This product wears more like a highlighter or an illuminator, more so than a bronzer. It is just a little too light and shimmery in color to be a bronzer The shimmer is very noticeable, but it looks very mature. Summer Kiss has nice pigmentation and it leaves you with a nice subtle glow.

I love to wear this highlighter when I am going for an everyday makeup look or a very soft neutral glam face. I have a deep chocolate complexion and this bronzer serves as a very subtle highlighter for me. If your skin tone is lighter then it may add a bit more illumination to the skin.

I do not own MAC's Whisper of Guilt but from the pictures that I have seen; this definitely looks like an affordable dupe.

After my instincts were proven right about the Femme Couture highlighters, I just knew it was time to go in for the kill and purchase Twice Baked.

Twice Baked is a very warm dusty golden-bronzey brown. It contains silver and gold flecks. I don't care much for the silver sparkles, but they are not extremely noticeable when swatched to the skin

The texture of Twice Baked is a bit more dusty
and dry than Summer Kiss when you touch it in it's compact baked form. After you swatch it to the skin it does apply very similar to Summer Kiss. It is smooth and soft, but a little powdery/dusty.

Summer Kiss is a bit more pigmented than Twice Baked on deeper skin tones. Twice Baked takes two swatches or three to get a good color pay-off on a deeper skin tone such as mine. Twice baked nearly blends in with my chocolate skin tone, giving it a slight sheen. I did not see much of a difference in pigmentation when I wet the bronzer. However, when the sun shines in on Twice Baked, it serves as a very gorgeous highlighter. In FACT, it is one of the most beautiful highlighters/illuminators/bronzers that I have ever seen. It is simply stunning. It truly gives brown skin a BEAUTIFUL BRONZE GLOW.

I was driving in the car when I saw the sun shining on my hand after I swatched Twice Baked. Annnnnnnnnnnd, I almost crashed my car because I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this new union.

Twice Baked is without a doubt one of the most beautiful bronzers that I have ever seen when sunlight kisses it.

I believe Twice Baked can be worn as a bronzer on lighter skin tones, but it would have to be applied very lightly. It does have a bit of shimmer to it as well. I would recommend using it as an illuminator or highlighter for a nice warm bronze-glowy look. This is definitely a summer highlighter.

Gold Deposit - (left) & Twice Baked - (right)

Now let's get to the good part. Inquiring minds want to know.

Is Femme Couture's Twice Baked a Dupe for MAC's Gold Deposit...YES OR NAH?

Well, I would say (IN THEORY) if you ABSOLUTELY cannot purchase MAC's Gold Deposit then Twice Baked would be another option. An affordable option at that.

Honestly, it just does not have the same quality as Gold Deposit. Gold Deposit is way more finely milled. The texture is so buttery and soft in it's compact form AND on the skin. It is extremely pigmented (BUT YOU KNOW THAT COMES WITH TONS OF FALL OUT). Gold Deposit is simply divine when swatched and worn on the highest points of the cheekbone. It has amazing pigmentation in and out of the sun. It is an amazing golden-bronze color for women of deeper skin tones. Nothing can really compare to it.

Twice Baked lacks in texture and pigmentation when compared. It simply does not fully measure up to MAC's Gold Deposit.

I would say a strong YES to this bronzer....IF:

  1. If you are a make-up hoarder
  2. If you are a bronzer junkie
  3. If you are a highlighter junkie
  4. If you are in the market for a new affordable bronzer and you want to keep this bronzer in your purse as a back-up
  5. If you want to wear this underneath GD
  6. If you just don't want to use up all your high-end highlighters/bronzers
